Frequently Asked Questions

A) How can I get in touch with Father Martins?

Due to the time constraints his ministries and travel schedule placed on him, Fr. Martins is unable to provide individual counseling or advice.  If you have questions of a personal nature regarding the demonic or the spiritual life, please contact your priest or clergyperson.

Non-confidential questions may be asked through the contact link at the top of this page or by clicking here.

B) What information about the exorcism cases has been changed/altered? Are these stories actually real?

This podcast series contains actual accounts of possession and other demonic activity from the case files and notes of Fr. Carlos Martins.  To maintain anonymity for the victims and their families, he has changed the names of all involved as well as other details where there was a reasonable chance the victims or their families could be identified.

C) When do new episodes come out?

New episodes for Season 1 air weekly with the goal of releasing them late every Sunday. Due to the complex nature of the 3D Binaural audio, the demands of our schedule and our small team, we cannot always guarantee Sunday delivery. To ensure you can access the show as soon as it is released, subscribe on your preferred podcast platform and sign up for the email list.

D) Why does the podcast contain re-enactments of exorcisms?  Why not simply provide the information in lecture form?

From Fr. Martins:

“There are three reasons. One, the Church puts out teaching constantly, and very few chime in. Most people regard lectures—especially lectures on religious topics—as boring. As we are quickly losing the Christian culture, utilizing a different approach seemed necessary. Two, I believe dramatizations of actual events give the listener a better appreciation of the adversarial nature of evil and what can happen when it makes its way into our lives. It also makes the need for personal conversion much more convincing. Three, young persons aged eighteen to twenty-nine are increasingly leaving organized religion. A recent Pew survey found that the number of religiously unaffiliated persons in this demographic increased from 15 percent to almost 20 percent in just five years. However, another survey showed that a whopping 63 percent of the same demographic believe that people can become possessed by demons, a figure higher than any other group. Evidently, in the age group most disinterested in religion, something is occurring in their lives that makes them conclude demons are real. I feel it necessary to reach out to this age group—using podcasts, a medium with which they are familiar and comfortable—to aid them in interpreting their experiences in a healthy manner and to direct them to the One that has vanquished evil.”

E) Why are there commercials? Do you pick the ads? Is there any way to skip through them?

  • Producing shows costs money. Commercials are how iHeart makes its money back, making the show possible.  We do not pick the ads; they are inserted automatically via software into openings on the recordings.  This software is not perfect, as some listeners have discovered.  However, the problems were addressed with iHeart and changes were made.

  • There are two ways to avoid commercials:

  • You can also use the 15-second (or 30-second) skip buttons on your app to fast-forward through the commercials. (We won’t be offended if you do this.)

  • Paying for a premium membership on Spotify ($9.99/month) allows you to listen ad-free.

F) I am embarrassed to ask but…what Is a Podcast?

Don’t be.  We get this a lot.  Podcasts are recorded audio shows that you can listen to whenever you want.  Most people subscribe to them through their phones because part of the pleasure of a podcast is the convenience of “taking the show with you.”  Some like to listen to podcasts while sitting in a comfortable chair; others find them the perfect companion while doing an activity, such as cleaning the house, cooking a meal, or commuting.

I) Why is the podcast not suitable for children? Why is there crude language?

The purpose of the podcast was to allow listeners to experience all aspects of the ministry of exorcism, from the initial interview with the victim to the resolution of the case.  In this way, they can stand “should to shoulder” with the exorcist as he is informed of the problem, diagnoses how the demon entered the victim, strategizes his attack, exorcizes the demon, and provides the victim with on-going pastoral care.

These accounts involve people from all walks of life, people that could be your relatives or neighbors.  Our desire was to be as faithful and realistic to the original accounts as possible.  There are some exceptions, however.  For example, while some crude words are used (e.g., sh*t), the “F word” is not.  There is also no blasphemy.

J) I am interested in hosting Fr. Martins’ other ministry, the Vatican exhibition of relics called Treasures of the Church.  How do I do that?

Make a request at www.treasuresofthechurch.com/request-an-exposition.  Do not make it through this site.

K) Can Listening to this show invite demons into my life?

No. The show is not a “celebration” of the demonic but Father Martins’ teachings on how to protect oneself from the enemy.  While some may find the subject matter too disturbing, the goal was to balance the details of authentic exorcism cases with useful explanations and solid Christian teaching. There are no demons attached to the show and none can enter you merely from listening to it.

This quote from C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters, is particularly insightful:

“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”

L) Listening to the show has me wondering whether I am being demonically attacked.  What do you advise?

From Fr. Martins:

  1. Get rid of the sin in your life.  All of it.  Permanently.

  2. Reconcile with God.  Admit your faults and sins honestly.  Ask Him for mercy and invite Him into your heart.  Make Him (and Him alone) the center of your life.

  3. Start praying and make it a regular part of your day.  Learn how.

  4. Never miss Church on Sunday.  It is the Lord’s day.

  5. Live an upright life befitting of a Christian, knowing that one day you will stand before your Maker and give an account of even your careless words (Matthew 12:36).
